Towards the end of 2018, I was kept up at night by an idea to start a side hustle and supplement my income. I had odd customers here and there but hardly worked on growing it, let alone sharing with the public.

There was always a nudge to keep going though… I felt a strong conviction to put more effort into it and STOP undermining my skills and letting the fear of failure get in the way.

Around May 2019, I eventually came to my senses and quit coming up with excuses of why it wouldn’t work. I gave my side hustle a name, jotted down my goals, created my website from scratch and put myself out there.

Surprisingly, the more time I spent on it, the more it began to feel like home – like it was what I needed to do and I knew that it was leading me to my purpose.

Fast forward to June 2020; I received the awful news that my job was on the line due to an unavoidable restructure and my side hustle, now known as Bonani Contents (Pty) Ltd had become my saving grace. I had no idea when I began that my new business would be my source of income in this unstable economy right in the middle of a pandemic.

That’s the thing about opportunities though; they often come as tiny insignificant seeds that you need to nurture so they can turn into a great harvest in due season. I’m so grateful that I STARTED! I’m pleased that I listened to that still small voice telling me to keep going.

I’m here to remind you to start what you’ve been procrastinating. You never know where it will lead and who you’ll inspire along the way. I’m not sure what the future holds, but I know The One who holds the future. I’ve learnt to take it one day at a time and focus on what I have control over.

If you find yourself right in the middle of the storm, know that you will come out of it stronger and wiser. You just need to hold on to your dream and keep moving forward, there’s no reason to look back.

I’ll always cherish the time I spent at my previous company and could never trade those valuable years for anything. My former colleagues have now become family, and I’m fortunate to have worked with such amazing people from all corners of the world. As hard as it was to say goodbye, I knew that destiny was calling.

So… Here’s to rising together and finding opportunities in the midst of opposition!
